This surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia in approximately two to three hours. It is typically done using an incision under the breast to allow for the implant and capsule to be removed as one unit.
Dr. Savalia gently removes the implant and the capsule that has formed around it in one unit. Once the implants and capsules have been removed, he carefully closes the incisions, and your breasts are supported by a compression bra.
If your breast skin has stretched to accommodate implants, sagging or drooping may occur after breast implant removal. If you do not want new implants, one option to address this issue is a breast lift, which involves removing excess skin and repositioning the nipple and areola for perkier breasts. Fat grafting is also an option in which fat is taken from another part of the body using liposuction, and injected into the breast to allow more volume and improved shape.
If you are in good health, you will probably only need one week of downtime after en bloc capsulectomy. You may resume normal daily activities, such as showering, light activity, and walking, within 24 hours after surgery. Post-operative pain and discomfort can be controlled with prescription medications. You can expect some swelling, which should resolve within a few weeks after surgery.
